God created the sky and He does not need it, he does not inhabit it, Allah made the sky the destination of supplications, so this is why Muslims usually raise their hands to the sky when they make a supplication (Du^a'). Now, I present to you what Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali - who died in the hijri year 505 which means 924 years ago - said in his book named 'Ihya' ^ulumid-Din'. This is the First Volume of 'Ihya' ^ulumid-Din'. It is the first edition printed by 'Dar al-Kutub al-^ilmiyyah . On page 153 the author says: "..as for raising the hands towards the sky --heavens- when asking Allah (or when making Du^a') is because it is the destination of the supplication (Du^a')This is the end of quote, wal 7amdulillahi rabbil ^alameen.
